Build your configurator

Preview and go live

Test every path through your configurator, fix what the health check finds, then share your link.

Preview your changes

Click Preview in the admin menu, on the publish card, or Preview configurator on the Dashboard. It opens the configurator with your unpublished changes, and a yellow banner across the top says you’re in preview. Everything works as it does for a customer, except that submitting and Save & continue later are turned off, and your visits don’t count in Analytics.

Exit preview in the banner takes you back to the published version that customers see.

Publish

When the draft looks right, click Publish… on the card at the top of the admin menu. You’ll see a list of what changed, for example “Changed price of part DOOR_STEEL: $499.00 → $549.00”. Add an optional note for your team (“Spring price update”) and click Publish. Customers see the new version on their next visit.

If something’s wrong after publishing, open History → Published versions and click Make live again on the previous version. It takes effect straight away, and your draft is left as it was so you can fix it and publish again.

Test every path

Pick answers the way different customers would, and check the price at each step:

  • The cheapest quote: minimum options, smallest size. Is anything missing that every job needs?
  • The most expensive quote: every add-on, largest size, highest quantity. Does the total look right? Are any parts doubled because two things add them?
  • Each branch: for every rule that hides a question or greys out an option, take the path where it fires and the path where it doesn’t.
  • Phone: open the configurator on your phone. Most of your customers will.
  • Submit one, after publishing: submitting is off in preview, so once it’s live, open the configurator normally, fill in your own email and submit a test quote. Check the confirmation email, the quote page and the PDF, then mark the test quote Cancelled in Quotes.

Check engine health

The Dashboard’s Engine health card looks for common setup mistakes:

Warning What it means Fix
Questions with no options A pick-one or pick-many question has nothing to pick. Add options, or hide the question.
Active rules with no actions The rule checks answers but does nothing. Add an action, or turn it off.
Active rules with no conditions The rule runs on every quote. Fine if intended, like “Track and hardware (always)”. Otherwise add a check.
Active parts not referenced anywhere No answer, category or rule ever adds this part. Attach it somewhere, or turn it off.

All clear means none of these were found. It doesn’t check that your prices are right; only testing does that.

Go live

Your configurator’s address is /configure on your ConfigBid address. To get customers there:

  • Add a Get a quote button to your website that links to it.
  • Put the link in your email signature, quote follow-ups and social profiles.
  • Link to it from Google Business Profile as your quote or booking link.

Before you share it, set up Notifications so your team hears about every new quote.

What customers experience

  1. Welcome and quote info: your welcome heading, then their contact details. Configure both in Settings.
  2. Sections: one step at a time, with the running price always visible: in a side panel on desktop, and in a bar along the bottom on phones.
  3. Save and continue later: customers can email themselves a link and pick up where they left off. Links last 30 days.
  4. Review: every answer by section, every part and quantity, the price breakdown, your terms, and buttons to jump back and change a section.
  5. Submit: a confirmation page with a Download PDF button and your “What happens next” steps. They also get an email with a link to their quote.

Your team gets an email for each new quote, if you’ve set one up. The quote appears in Quotes, and is sent to your webhook if you’ve set one up.
