Build your configurator
Sections
The steps of your configurator, and how to add, order and retire them.
A section is one step of the configurator. Customers move through sections in order, with a progress bar along the top. Keep each section focused on one decision, like “the door”, “the opener” or “installation”. Sections that ask five to eight questions feel quick; sections with twenty feel like paperwork.
Create a section
Go to Sections and click + New section.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Label | The section’s heading, for example “Door specs”. |
| Short label | A one-word name for the progress stepper, for example “Door”. If blank, the full label is used, which can crowd the stepper on phones. |
| Order | Where the section sits. Lower numbers come first. You can also use the up and down arrows in the list. |
| Description | A sentence or two under the heading. Tell customers what this step is about, or what to measure first. |
| Header image | Optional. A landscape image up to 4 MB and 3000 × 2000 px. The configurator crops it into a header band, so avoid images with important detail near the edges. |
| Active | Off hides the whole section, and all of its questions, from customers. |
Reorder sections
Use the Move up and Move down arrows in the list. The order is saved straight away.
Take a section offline
Turn Active off. The section and its questions disappear from the configurator, but nothing is deleted, so you can bring it back later. This is also the safe way to build a new section: keep it inactive until it’s ready.
Delete a section
Deleting a section also deletes every question and category inside it. If a rule still checks one of those questions, the delete is blocked until you change or delete that rule. In most cases, turning Active off is the better choice.
About keys. When you create a section, ConfigBid generates a key from the label (for example
door-specs). The key never changes, even if you rename the section later, so links and rules keep working.
